Dr. Abdulsalam S Ahmed
Dr. Abdulsalam completed his Training in General Surgery (1991-1994), his F.R.C.S-Ed, Acting Registrar (SHO) in General and Laparoscopic Surgery (Feb 1993 - July1994) at Tameside General Hospital, Manchester. He received the FRCS from Edinburgh (1993).
Dr. Abdulsalam is a member of FICS Fellow of the International College of Surgeon, USA (2004), a MSAGES International Member in the Society of the American Gastro-Intestinal Endoscopic Surgery, USA (2004), and an IFSO Member in the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (2008).
Dr. Abdulsalam has many publications and several conferences including Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy review of 1000 cases, diagnostic value of Laparoscopy, presentation of colorectal tumors in the young age Group 30 cases, Case Report: Omental Torsion presented as acute abdomen in a 10 years old boy, and Case Report: Advanced Gall Bladder Carcinoma with No liver metastases, among many others. Also Cuschieri Basic Laparoscopic Surgery (1992) and Cuschieri Advanced laparoscopic surgery (1993) in Dundee, UK, Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, Colorectal Laparoscopic procedures in Hannover, Germany (1999), Bariatric Laparoscopic Surgery Workshop in Salzburg and MIRA Minimal Invasive Robotic Surgery) Innsbruck, Austria (2005).
Dr. Abdulsalam began his career as House Officer (rotational scheme) Medicine, General Surgery, Obs. & Gyn. ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery, and Urology (June 1982-June 1984). He was SHO rotational scheme in all medical and surgical specialties (July 1984 –June 1986), a Registrar in general surgery Al Rasheed Teaching Hospital Baghdad (July1986 – Sept 1988), and did his Permanent residence (Senior Registrar) in General surgery, Kadmia Teaching Hospitals, Baghdad Oct (1988-Aug 1990).
Dr. Abdulsalam was SHO in General and Laparoscopic Surgery (Feb 1992 - Jan1993), in Orthopaedic Surgery, and in Accident and Emergency at Tameside General Hospital, Manchester (Feb 1991-July1991). He had a clinical attachment in Urology under the care of Mr. Lupton Consultant Surgeon, Withington Hospital, Manchester (preparation for the PLAB Test) (Aug 1990 - Jan 1991).
Dr. Abdulsalam was employed as a Consultant Surgeon and Senior Lecturer at Medical College of Baghdad University (Nov 1994 - June 2003), and a Consultant General & Laparoscopic Surgeon at Al Noor Hospital in Abu Dhabi (2003- 2017) before joining Al Zahra Hospital in 2017.
Dr. Abdulsalam’s area of expertise is in Laparoscopic Bariatric surgery (Sleeve, Bypass, Banding), Advanced Laparoscopic surgery (GERD, Hiatal hernia, Achalasia), Basic Laparoscopic Surgery (Lap Chole, Ventral, Inguinal hernia), General surgery (Breast, thyroid, perianal disease, fissure & fistula), and Varicose Veins treatment (surgical and non-surgical).
Dr. Abdulsalam attended several national and international courses including Moderator in the course of laparoscopic surgery fundamentals at the Knowledge village in Dubai, UAE (2004), Laparoscopic Obesity Surgery workshops at Tawam Hospital in Al Ain, UAE (2004), and Director of the Laparoscopic surgical training of basic and advanced courses at the Ministry of Health in Baghdad, IRAQ (1995-2003).
Dr. Abdulsalam has many conferences, the most recent being the 14th Scientific Conference of Cancer Society, Baghdad March 7-9/2000, Paper: Silent advanced GIT Cancers, and the Third Scientific Conference of ISGH October 25-26/2000, Baghdad. He also edited a book under the title of “Your guide in Laparoscopic Surgery'' 2000.
