Dr. Khalil Sammour is a Consultant General Surgeon and Laparoscopic at
Al Zahra Private Hospital. Dr. Sammour received his MBCh.B degree from Ein Shams University – Cairo with distinction in 1976 and his FRCS from the Royal College of Physicians & of Glasgow in 1986.
Dr. Sammour is a member of many professional societies among them the SAGES: The Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, EAES : The European Association of Endoscopic Surgeons, Asia Pacific Herna Society and the Indian Hernia Society.
He has authored or co-authored many scientific publications. After serving the causalities at the civil war in Lebanon, Dr. Sammour as a founder of old
Al Qassimi hospital in 1976, worked with the Allied Medical group for 10 years, during this period he was given the chance to work at the UK for more than 4 years when he finished his training and post graduate qualifications.
Dr. Sammour met his wife Samira who worked at Al Qassimi hospital as senior haematologist and got married in 1979, and were gifted with 2 sons and a daughter. Tarik, eldest son graduated from Auckland University Medical School and working as a SR in General Surgery at Middle More hospital. Samar, graduated from Auckland University Optometry School and working in Auckland, New Zealand, Yousef 4th year at Auckland Engineering School.
Dr. Sammour, among few of his colleagues is the pioneer of medical service in Sharjah. He still remembers the unloading of medical equipments to Al Qassimi hospital and so many stories... performed the first normal delivery in Accident & Emergency at Al Qassimi hospital for a patient on her way from Ras Al Khaimah to Rashid hospital and conducted several craniotomies before the eve of CT scan and availability of neurosurgeons.
In January 1987, hospital was taken over by the MOH, Dr. Sammour shifted to New Al Qassimi hospital as a senior Consutant General Surgeon, every other day on-call and for emergency endoscopy for Sharjah and Northern Emirates for 10 years and visiting surgeon to Kuwaiti hospital Sharjah.
In 1994, Dr. Sammour with his friend Dr. S. Qazim introduced laparoscopic surgery to Al Qassimi hospital and pioneered the laparoscopic cholecystectomy. He also managed to obtain the recognition of AQH & the SKH by RCS of Glasgow as Teaching hospitals.
In 1996, Dr. Sammour has a longstanding experience in Endoscopy, pioneering laparoscopic cholecystectomy, thyroid, breast surgery and Trauma surgery in Sharjah.
As a head of surgical department and Medical Director of Kuwaiti Hospital Sharjah. Dr. Sammour was given the task of establishing the surgical department after which many candidates were granted the FRCS degree.
In 1998, Dr. Sammour’s family dicided to move to New Zealand, a beautiful place to work and live, where he exchanged surgical experience with New Zealand colleagues. Dr. Sammour worked as a Specialist Surgeon for 3 years enjoyed serving the west coasters and patients at Christ Church hospital at the South Island of New Zealand.
Dr. Sammour could not be away from his friends and patients in Sharjah came back to the same practice at Kuwaiti hospital, Sharjah then he decided to join
Al Zahra hospital.

- Chairman of Morbidity/Mortality Committee, Al Kuwaiti Hospital Sharjah.
- Chairman of Quality Control Committee, Al Kuwaiti Hospital Sharjah.
- Head of ICC Infection Control Committee, Al Kuwaiti Hospital Sharjah.
- Member at the CME Committee, Sharjah Health Authority.
- Head of General Surgical Department, Al Kuwaiti Hospital Sharjah.
- Member of Major Accident Plan Committee, The committee meets every six weeks. Drills are practiced, and first aid courses are continuously given to the Civil Defence Force & Health Care Givers Ambulance drivers & nurses.
